 Getting to know our members.

*When did you start collecting dolls and why?
I bought a Leonardo porcelain doll for my mum but I changed my mind and I kept her for some reason. She was dressed in green velvet and had reddish ringlets. Soon I bought two or three more and had them in the guest bedroom (oh, I can remember what it was like to have lots of space back then LOL). Then, one morning I was shopping in W H Smith and I saw a copy of Doll magazine and on the cover was a Hildegard Gunzel doll, I had never seen a doll so beautiful! Well that was when my collecting really took off, although it was some time before I bought my first artist doll which was a Gotz.
*What was the very first doll you bought?
Along with the Leonardo porcelain doll I mentioned she was my first purchase for myself but the first doll ever bought for me was a composition baby doll that I called Angela. I no longer have her though.

*Who are your favorite doll artists?
For child dolls I like Annette Himstedt, Hildegard Gunzel, Sissel Skille, Nicole Marschollek (Zwergnase) and for babies I like Lullabydolls, Michelle Fagan and I'm quite taken with some of Eva Helland's work.
*You like to do crafts, what types of things do you make for your dolls?
Mainly I knit and crochet jackets, hats, bootees etc for my babies. I have made a couple of bigger things for the Himstedts. I did intend to sew some dresses but that never happened, I find it much easier to knit or crochet in the evening while watching TV or sometimes during a long car journey. I like to crochet with fine threads and add touches of embroidery (although I'm no expert at embroidery!).

*How many dolls do you have in your collection?
I'll have to pop away for a minute and add up......Wow 170! But that includes childhood dolls and a huge variety of different dolls including some playdolls, some foreign dolls and 6 porcelain kits that have yet to be made up.
*What is your favorite doll medium?
I don't really have a favourite, I enjoy collecting a variety of mediums. It would be easier to say that my least favourite is porcelain now because of the fragility of it.

*What is the best part of your hobby?
The best part for me is the dressing, I love the little clothes!

*Do you have a particular favorite doll in your collection?
Oh no, that would be unfair, I love them all equally. Maybe I love them for different reasons but each one is a part of the whole collection.

*If you could have any doll in the world what doll would that be?
Well maybe one of the older Hildegard Gunzel wax over porcelains but I would need to be very rich and have a big glass case to keep her safe in!! As it is I have a book with pictures of them all and I enjoy looking at the beauties in that without having to spend the cash!
*As co-creator of Doll Chit Chat how has that changed your hobby?
I don't think it's changed my hobby as such, I still find I'm exploring the different types of doll. I suppose it's made me more aware of the diversity of other people's collections.

*What has being a forum owner and/or being part of a forum meant to you?
I've formed lots of wonderful friendships that I value a great deal.
*You've been to a few doll meets, how important is it to meet up with people who share the same hobby?
Well for me, since I don't have anyone locally to share with it is very important. I thoroughly enjoy getting together with friends, either just to meet and show each other our dolls or to shop for clothes for them - it's all wonderful fun!

Happy Spring Everyone
